A typical 2-bedroom apartment with average furnishings needs 40-60 medium-equivalent boxes. The calculator splits these across sizes: roughly 10-15 small, 20-25 medium, 8-12 large, and 4-6 extra-large. Add more if you have a large kitchen, many books, or extensive collections.

Under 50 lbs (22 kg) is the standard guideline for safe handling without equipment. Boxes of books or heavy kitchen items should be small boxes (1.5 cu ft) to stay within this limit. A medium box fully packed with books easily exceeds 50 lbs.

Plan 1-3 hours per room for a moderately furnished space. A full 3-bedroom house typically takes 20-40 hours of packing time. Starting 4-6 weeks before the move date and packing one room per day makes it manageable without a stressful final week.
