Cat Pregnancy Calculator

Calculate your cat's expected due date, kittening window, and key pregnancy milestones from the mating date.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is this due date estimate?

The estimate is accurate within a few days for most cats. The normal kittening window (day 60-68) captures the vast majority of births. Accuracy is highest when the exact mating date is known. For greater precision, veterinary ultrasound at day 28-35 can estimate gestational age from fetal size. The more matings recorded, the narrower the likely birth window.

How do I know if my cat is pregnant without a vet visit?

Early signs include nipple pinking (day 14-16), gradual belly enlargement (visible by week 4-5), increased appetite, and behavioral changes such as increased affection or nesting. Morning sickness can occur around weeks 3-4. However, a vet visit with ultrasound at 4-5 weeks is the only reliable way to confirm pregnancy and assess litter size and fetal health.

What should I feed a pregnant cat?

From week 6 onward, gradually increase food intake and ideally switch to kitten food or a food labeled for all life stages. Pregnant and nursing queens have substantially higher protein, calorie, and calcium needs than maintenance adult cats. By the final week before birth, the queen may be eating 50-75% more than her normal amount. Divide food into multiple small meals if she seems uncomfortable with a full stomach.

My cat gave birth to fewer kittens than expected - should I be concerned?

Not necessarily. Litter sizes vary and early embryo resorption is common and often unnoticed. However, if you know from X-ray how many kittens were expected and fewer have been delivered, contact your veterinarian. Retained kittens or placental material require prompt medical attention to prevent life-threatening infection (pyometra).
