This calculator subtracts the total thickness of all items from the overall span, then distributes the remaining empty space into equal gaps.

It returns the clear gap between items and the on-center spacing - the center-to-center distance you actually mark with a tape - in inches or centimeters.

Free space = span minus (count x item thickness). If you want end gaps: number of gaps = count + 1. If items are flush with ends: number of gaps = count - 1. Gap = free space divided by gap count. On-center spacing = (span minus item thickness) divided by (count minus 1) for flush ends.
