Frequently Asked Questions
What lowers delay the most?
Usually whichever term is largest for you - a far server (high ping), a low tickrate, or a big interp buffer. This breakdown shows which lever to pull.
Does higher FPS help with online delay?
A little - it shrinks the frame-time term and reduces jitter, but it cannot compensate for a high-ping or low-tick server.
Why does a high-tick server feel snappier?
Both the tick interval and the interpolation delay shrink, often removing 20-40 ms versus a 20-tick server at the same ping.
Is this my exact input lag?
No - treat it as a comparative estimate. Peripheral polling, the render queue, and display latency add more on top, but those are roughly constant across servers.
Why do I get shot behind cover?
That is lag compensation. The server rewinds to where the shooter saw you, so your total delay is the window in which peeker's advantage exists - lowering any term narrows it.
