Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Rule of 2 and 4?

Multiply outs by 4 on the flop or by 2 on the turn for an approximate win percentage. A flush draw (9 outs) on the flop is about 36%. This calculator gives the exact combinatorial result.

What are pot odds?

Pot odds are the ratio of the amount you must call to the total pot after calling. If equity exceeds pot odds, calling is profitable long-term.

What are implied odds?

Implied odds extend pot odds to include chips you expect to win on future streets if you hit your draw. Most valuable against deep-stacked opponents likely to pay off.

What counts as an out?

An out is any unseen card that improves your hand to likely be the best hand. Cards that also complete the opponent's better hand are dirty outs and should be discounted.

Why are blockers and ranges not modeled?

This tool provides pure mathematical equity based on outs and pot size. Range and blocker analysis requires estimating opponent holdings, which is a separate layer of decision-making.
