Stretched Resolution Calculator

Compute render and display aspect ratios, the horizontal stretch factor, and the effective FOV change for stretched resolutions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do player models look bigger on stretched resolution?

The narrow render buffer is widened to fill the screen, so every model gains horizontal width by the stretch factor. This can make targets easier to track, at the cost of image sharpness.

Does stretched resolution actually help aim?

It is largely preference. Some find wider models easier to track; others lose precision from the blur. Test both and keep whichever you can be consistent with.

Will the FOV really change?

Only if the game scales FOV with aspect ratio (Hor+). Titles that lock vertical FOV may crop instead of widening - verify in-game.

Is stretched resolution allowed in competitive play?

It is a display setting allowed in essentially all competitive titles. Anti-aliasing and clarity suffer at non-native resolutions, so weigh the readability gain against the visual cost.

What is the difference between GPU scaling and display scaling?

GPU scaling happens in the graphics card before the signal reaches the monitor. Display scaling happens in the monitor's scaler. Only the component doing the scaling determines whether the buffer is stretched or letterboxed.
