Frequently Asked Questions
Is a higher longevity score always better?
Yes within the scoring range. Scores closer to 10 reflect markers associated with lower mortality risk in population studies. However, no score predicts your individual lifespan. These are statistical associations from large studies, not personal predictions.
How do I measure grip strength without a dynamometer?
A rough estimate can be made from how much weight you can hold in a dead hang for 30 seconds using a loaded cable machine or pull-up bar setup. For a more accurate measurement, many physical therapists, sports medicine clinics, and some gyms have hand dynamometers. Some smart scales also estimate grip strength.
How do I estimate my VO2 max without a lab test?
Run as far as you can in 12 minutes on a flat surface (Cooper test) and use the formula VO2 max = (distance in meters − 504.9) ÷ 44.73. Alternatively, many GPS watches (Garmin, Apple Watch, Polar) estimate VO2 max from heart rate and pace data during outdoor runs. Accuracy is within about 5-10% for wearable estimates.
Does this tool diagnose any condition?
No. It scores population-level fitness markers associated with longevity risk. It does not diagnose any medical condition, assess frailty, or replace a clinical evaluation. If your score is low or you have health concerns, discuss them with your physician.
