Frequently Asked Questions

Is the MRS a diagnostic test for menopause?

No. The MRS measures symptom severity, not hormonal or menopausal status. Menopause is diagnosed clinically based on 12 months without a menstrual period and, when needed, confirmed with FSH levels. The MRS tracks how symptoms change over time, not whether you have entered menopause.

How often should I complete the MRS?

Once at baseline, then every 1 to 3 months if you are monitoring the course of symptoms or evaluating a new treatment. More frequent completion does not add meaningful information and can feel burdensome.

Can men experience symptoms on the MRS?

Some symptoms captured by the MRS (mood, sleep, cognitive issues, joint pain) are non-specific and can occur in men with andropause (age-related testosterone decline). However, the MRS was validated in women and is not a validated tool for male hormonal assessment.

Is hormone therapy safe for everyone?

MHT is not appropriate for everyone. Women with a history of hormone-sensitive breast cancer, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, active liver disease, or certain cardiovascular conditions may not be candidates. The decision requires an individualized risk-benefit discussion with your clinician. This is informational only, not personalized medical advice.
