It depends. Pre-existing conditions (including those already documented) are excluded from most policies, which limits value for senior pets with known health issues. However, comprehensive insurance still covers new conditions. Compare the break-even vet bill, the exclusions list, and the premium against your realistic cash-flow tolerance and savings position before deciding.

Include routine veterinary visits (typically 1-2 per year for seniors), dental cleanings under anesthesia, any prescription medications, therapeutic or prescription diets, and supplements.
